Since Vitaliy never learned how to ride a bicycle, he decided to make up for it by focusing on becoming a well-rounded mountain climber, endurance athlete, photographer and a writer. He began his journey in the vertical realm in 2010. In the present, known for completing more technical first ascents than anyone in the California’s High Sierra, climbing all peaks on Fitz Roy's skyline, completing the biggest ridge traverse in the Northern Hemisphere (Goliath) solo and unsupported, as well as first free solo of the Yosemite Valley’s iconic Widow's Tears (1,700 feet, WI5 R) - the longest ice climb in the lower 48 States. He also lost more than 100 pounds and ran a 100 mile race in 21 hours.
While working full time as an ER nurse, he authored a three-volume guidebook, the “High Sierra Climbing: Technical Rock and Ice,” which is his most meaningful contribution to the climbing community. In addition, he had many of his articles, photos and reports published in a variety of climbing magazines, as well as contributed multiple long-format feature articles for the American Alpine Journal.
