Simply put, ski mountaineering terrain is unforgiving. Due to its steep and exposed nature, very little room exists for even the smallest of errors or miscalculations. Whether the terrain is in appropriate condition or not makes an enormous difference in stacking the odds in your favor for safe and enjoyable experiences. In this talk, we highlight the concept and importance of a seasonal-based forecasting method to help better understand the likelihood of hazards associated with the characteristics of individual pieces of terrain.
