The best way to stay safe in avalanche terrain is to not get caught. But we all need a plan B. A rescue is hard and when your partner is buried you only have a few minutes to save his or her life. An organized rescue team is not going to arrive in time to save a buried victim. For more reasons why you need this class, check out this 4-minute video.

This class will teach you the basics of rescuing a buried avalanche victim using your rescue gear and your wits. We'll teach and practice scene management, how to use your beacon, probe, and shovel by yourself and as a team, and what to do once a buried partner is uncovered.

Hands-on practice is key. We'll go into the snow and split into groups, taking turns finding and extricating a buried victim.

You must have a beacon, shovel, probe. We have a limited amount of loaner beacons, probes, and shovels. You should dress and bring the pack and contents you would normally have when you head into the backcountry.

Please bring your snowboard or skis. We'll be riding the lift up to the Beacon Training Park. If you have a Brighton Pass please bring it.

Location: Brighton Resort
